Carol Jacobs started contra dancing in the early 80's in Detroit. She has been a musician most of her life, and shortly after returning to Ann Arbor in 2000, began playing percussion, keyboard, and eventually flute with an open band that plays for local dances. This helped develop her sense of timing (which had always been strong) and helped her become familiar with contra music format. In early 2002, encouraged by friends, Carol took a series of caller's workshops offered by local callers. She has since studied with Bob Dalsemer, Kathy Anderson, and Glen Morningstar. She was one of two guest callers at the last Lovett Hall dance. Currently, Carol calls dance society dances and private parties including family dances in Michigan and Ohio. Her greatest love - while calling - is being connected with the music and watching as the dancers enjoy themselves. Professionally, Carol is a special education teacher and owns a house in Ann Arbor, where she live with her 3 cats. |
