Will Mentor is a contra and square dance caller from Northern Vermont known for his clear teaching, upbeat wit, and relaxed stage presence. He loves to choreograph evenings with a variety of dances and tempos that at times surprise and always delight, all the while keeping intact his guiding principle as a caller: "It's about the dancers!"

Boston-based trio Nor’easter is Cedar Stanistreet on the fiddle, Max Newman on the mandolin and guitar, and Julie Vallimont on the piano and accordion. Drawing from New England musical traditions, they delight in creating an exciting, joyous sound that catches both your ear and your feet. They began playing together in 2008 and have traveled throughout the continent, playing in more than twenty US States and three Canadian provinces.

Shoe Policy

We are lucky to have this wonderful floor to dance on. Maintaining such a floor is costly, and the administrator of St. Barnabas has asked us to respect their shoe policy, which is that no street shoes may be worn in the dance hall/gym. Please *bring* an extra pair of shoes to the dance to change into .Click here for more details.

Toronto Country Dancers Dec 2009 - Caller David Smukler

New to Contra Dancing

or to the Toronto Country Dancers ?

Beginners are welcome at all TCD dances - No partner needed. Contra dancing is a walking step so no fancy footwork to be learned. All music is live (jigs & reels). All dances walked through before the dance. Please come for the 7:00 p.m. Basics Class before the dance.

We hold Contra Dances most second, fourth, and fifth Saturdays from September through June. Please check our Schedule for details. This site is updated regularly. For out of town dances, please follow the "Links" link in the left navigation bar.

We dance at St. Barnabas Church Hall on the Danforth. It's across the road from the Carrot Common. From the Chester Subway Station walk westwards along the Danforth then south on Hampton Ave. Follow the path through the playground to the doors at the end of the path.

It’s traditional to change partners for each dance, so you will dance with many people during an evening. Dress casually and comfortably in layers. It gets quite warm. All dancers are invited to go out to eat afterwards.

Suggestions ?? Feedback ??

Need to express an opinion about one of our recent bands or callers? Did you dance somewhere else to fabulous music or calling? Please let us know how we're doing --and who you would like to see us hire in the future. In addition to the Suggestion Box which is on the table at every dance, we now have an online comment and suggestion form which we encourage you to use.
